Subliminal Wiki
Complete Walkthrough, Puzzle Guides & Survival Tips
The definitive fan guide for Subliminal โ the psychological horror game by Accidental Studios. Navigate the backrooms, master light mechanics, and find every ending.
๐ฆ What is Subliminal?
Subliminal is a psychological horror game developed by Accidental Studios and published by Gone Shootin and Infini Fun, officially released on Steam on March 31, 2026. Drawing from the internet mythology of The Backrooms and the uncanny aesthetic of liminal spaces, Subliminal places you inside a fractured memory architecture where nothing obeys physical law and something inhuman is always nearby.
Unlike conventional horror games that rely on jump scares or scripted monster chases, Subliminal builds dread through environmental instability and puzzle tension. Light is your primary tool and your only weapon โ not to fight, but to survive. You detach ceiling fixtures, carry them through dark corridors, aim beams at sensor panels to unlock doors, and learn that the shadow your light casts is as important as the light itself.
Built on Unreal Engine 5 using Lumen global illumination and Nanite virtualized geometry, Subliminal achieves photorealistic real-time lighting that is not just visual design โ it is the foundation of every puzzle in the game.
Subliminal is available on PC via Steam with full support for SteamVR and OpenXR, with planned releases for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It supports 14 languages, with full audio dubbing in English and Simplified Chinese.
๐บ๏ธ Chapter Walkthroughs
Subliminal Episode 1 contains three chapters. Select a chapter below for a full walkthrough including puzzle solutions, hidden secrets, and ending guides.
Prologue & The Basement
The opening chapter. You wake in a dimly lit basement with no memory of how you arrived. This area functions as a hands-on tutorial โ no instructions appear on screen. You must discover that ceiling fixtures can be detached and carried by simply approaching them and pressing the interact key. The Basement introduces the concept that light is not just illumination but the primary tool of survival.
WaterWorks
An abandoned indoor water park. The pool is drained and the fluorescent lighting flickers inconsistently. WaterWorks introduces multi-source puzzles: several sensor panels require two light sources illuminating them simultaneously. The entity makes its first full appearance here โ previously only glimpsed in peripheral vision in The Basement.
Childhood Memories
The emotional and mechanical climax of Episode 1. A children's play area that should feel safe but has been warped by memory degradation. Slides lead to impossible destinations. Climbing frames extend beyond the ceiling. The familiar children's song plays backwards in certain rooms. This chapter introduces the TV portal mechanic: certain television screens can be activated by illuminating them, transporting you between memory fragments within the same level.
๐ก Core Mechanics
Detach and carry ceiling fixtures and lamps. The directional cone of light you aim is how you activate sensor panels and reveal hidden paths.
Wall and floor-mounted panels that unlock doors when illuminated. Some require two simultaneous light sources โ introduced in WaterWorks.
Position your light so its shadow forms a specific shape on a marked wall surface.
In Childhood Memories, illuminate the center of old CRT televisions for 3 seconds to enter memory fragments.
The primary entity. Uses a hesitation-detection system โ standing still for 8+ seconds triggers it.
Ending 1 (bad) is accessible in WaterWorks. Ending 2 (true ending) requires completing all three memory fragments.
