The Figure
The central antagonist of Subliminal. The Figure is a tall, featureless silhouette that appears at the boundary of your field of vision before ever approaching directly. In The Basement, it is visible only as a shape in a doorway or a reflection in a darkened window. By WaterWorks, it begins active pursuit. In Childhood Memories, its behavior shifts from predatory to mirrored โ it no longer chases but reflects.

Subliminal uses a hesitation-detection system rather than fixed patrol routes. The Figure registers: (1) time standing still in one location โ 8+ seconds in active zones triggers heightened awareness; (2) failed puzzle attempts โ each failed attempt increases entity aggression by ~15%; (3) directional movement โ consistent forward progress calms the entity, stopping or backtracking escalates it.
